Dear one, I created you with an amazing mind. Your brain controls so much involuntarily-your heartbeat and your breathing, for example. Yet an array of actions and thoughts are completely voluntary: you choose what you say and do. How much better it is to choose wisely and to do right.
David asked for something reasonable; Nabal responded with rudeness; David sough vengeance. This would have not have ended well for anyone. Nabal's wife, Abigail, recognized the foolishness of her husband's decision and set about making things right. Her quick thinking kept David from actions he would have later regretted and, incidentally, saved the lives of her husband and his servants.
When my children think fast, act wisely, and seek peace, I am pleased. I long to give you wisdom in every situation. Just ask.
Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, who has sent you today to meet me. May you be blessed for your good judgment. 1 Samuel 25:32-33 (NIV)
